Also worth a mention, Shara Gillow finished 4th in The exergy Tour in Idaho.
Congratulations Shara!!

Congratulations Shara!!
I’ve never really watched BMX before, but I did see this over the weekend.
Congratulations to Sam Willoughby, I’m sure that wasn’t as easy as it looked!!
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy a bike and that’s pretty close.
Bike lover.
Or, in my case, 6 bikes……
In response to Rolly’s WE NEED REAL GIRLS ON BIKES, WHO REALLY RIDE (no more bikinis!), here is a picture of an old housemate who now lives back in her home country of Germany.
This is a great pic Jenny after an amateur race (125km on the road, time: 3:38h, average speed: 34 km/h) in Leipzig, placing 8 of 25 overall, and 2nd in her age class.
Competing in the Neuseenclassics (NSC) - Rund um die Braunkohle - in Zwenkau/near Leipzig on Sunday the 20th of May, 2012.

Finally a Sunday where the sun was shining (kinda) and I didn’t have something to keep me from riding.
Well almost. I had a 1st birthday party in North Warrandyte, so decided to work it into a ride via Mt Pleasant Road with some mates. All hastily arranged, we met up for coffee at 9am (very civilised) at Two:Bob cafe on Queens Parade in Fitzroy North. A mate of mine’s cousin owns this place and there’s always a friendly welcome for us when we roll through. Also, quite bizarre, but I recognised one of the faces waiting for me as this guy, Alex. NSP follows Alex (not sure if the feeling is mutual?), but I’d never met him before. Strange little place this Melbourne bike world, but he dropped me on most of the hills, so I probably won’t ride with him again! ;)
It’s been a while since I’ve climbed any hills and I was pleased to discover that I was pretty comfortable for the majority of the ride, finding myself near the front or in the middle of each climb. Felt great to climb and feel strong, maybe it was the one training session I did on Tuesday last week combined with Brunswick Cycling Club’s “Hour of Power” on Thursday night. Haha! Still a long way to go to get back to the kind of fitness I had before Xmas, but it’s definitely a start.
Here’s to more bicycle friendly weekend weather!!
I’m a big fan of Brisbane Outdoor Gear. I realised the other day that I have all of the below products from them:
Coin pouch (made from recycled inner tube)
Tool roll/pouch (recycled inner tube)
Love Handle hip pack
Papermunky messenger bag
Chunky Toad backpack (currently using the test bag, I’ll do a separate post when my custom bag arrives)
Strap Ons foot retention (pictured)
Dave is one of the most consistent people I know when it comes to quality customer service and going out of his way to ensure every customer receives exactly what they’re after.
I’ve been wanting to try out the pedal straps for ages now, but have never gotten around to it as the majority of my bikes already had straps and cages or a clipless system in place. But after hearing my mate Duggan had a set he was looking to offload, I snapped them up.
First impressions were that they were a bit tricky to set up correctly and I even had to look on their website to make sure I’d hooked them up properly. Once that minor hurdle was overcome, they went onto the bike. Way too tight. Adjust, get back on the bike, too loose!! BAH!
But……. I managed to get them just right, and now I love them. I wouldn’t run these on anything other than my pub/thrash around bike, but that’s exactly what they’re designed for, and they’re great. I hated riding with my adidas shell toes in straps and cages as the rubber end meant they kept slipping out, especially when doing mad whipskidzz. No such issue with the Strap Ons.
Comfy and strong.
Support a great homegrown company.
So as mentioned yesterday, I have finally dusted the cobwebs off the wallet and purchased something expensive for my roadbike.
My last two builds have been sub $700 and I’ve now come to terms with the fact that decent upgrades cost a bit of money.
So I bought these wheels after a few beers on Friday night.
I can’t wait to get them, but they’re coming from Germany, so I better just relax and do exactly that……wait.
This is my friend Kate’s bike.
Kate is rad, and so is her bike.
We often have lengthy discussions about bike components and what’s worth spending money on, and she’s usually right, I’m just too much of a tight arse to accept that quality bike parts cost lots of money (though recently I went against my Scottish heritage and bought something expensive, more on that tomorrow).
Kate has patience, and this is the product of that. This bike took time to source just the right parts for, and because of that is now a sweet bike at an even sweeter build price. I need more of this patience stuff.
Specs:
Concorde frame
SRAM Red groupset (with Force FD)
Reynolds Attack carbon wheels
DA Easton seatpost
Nitto Pearl stem
Champion Criterium tyres
All parts sourced by Kate, all parts attached to each other by Melbourne’s finest, Shifter Bikes (maybe turn your volume down first if you’re in a quiet office reading this!).
After seeing this thing built and finished, it’s probably the best argument she can give for biding time and spending the money on the right product, at the right time.
So Kate wins this argument convincingly. I’m ok with that.

I just bought one of the Kompact Pros, they’re good!!
This is our friend Brendan’s bike. It’s pretty freakin sweet. Don’t be intimidated by the picture, he’s not that scary in real life (unless you chop his wheel, then he might slap you about the head). Also worth mentioning the white wheels are just for training, it normally gets about on beautiful Campagnolo Shamals.
Custom built by Peter and Jim Bundy, it is measured and tailored to the exact fit as outlined by Brendan himself (likely with the help of Melbourne’s infamous Dr Dom). It’s all Columbus MAX tubing, so you know it’s gonna love when the power is unleashed on the boards.
Mirroring Brendan’s good mate, Sean “The Man” Hurley’s bike, the twin bikes (except the colour, Sean’s is black) hammering around Brunswick Velo is pretty rad.
Brendan is pretty damn fast on this thing, and has one of the smoothest pedalling techniques out there, but it’s been gathering dust of late. Seriously, it had a layer of dust on it when he brought it round!! Brendan explains the reasons why through numerous posts on his most excellent blog, The New Timer. Sounds like it was pretty tough going there for a while, but it’s great to see things are back on track (excuse the pun) and even catching him in secret training a few weeks back.
Hopefully he’ll be back at full strength soon and this bike gets all the attention it demands!
Wow.
So it seems this was sent to us here at NSP only one day before I posted this, talking about how we won’t be putting up pictures, movies etc of girls in skimpy clothes riding their bikes.
I don’t know what the point of this video is, and I’m not sure there is one, but why anyone would make it is beyond me. There is so much wrong with the whole scenario (especially at the end, if you make it that far), I seriously don’t know where to begin.
The only positive of the whole movie is that Nikcee may enjoy some of the scenery (when the video isn’t looking up the girls skirt of course…..)
Seriously, what the fuck?!
STOLEN.
Eugene has had his sweet green Hillman track bike stolen.
As you probably know by now, I have a soft spot for Hillman bikes, and this one was a totally awesome example with a great paint job, super tight clearances, and the best Hillman decal ever made.
Full details are here, but if you see it, give Eugene a call immediately - 0424408743
